Illithids are a race of extremely evil beings whose sole purpose is to enslave the population. They reside in hidden caves in the Underdark, and only venture forth to gather slaves or food (which are generally one and the same). Illithids are known to be extremely egotistical as well as xenophobic, but they are truly known for their mental capabilities. They believe themselves to be the perfect race, and all other races are merely there for their comfort, labor, and food supply. For reasons unknown to all but those involved, they have a truce with the duergars and drow elves. The length and the true purpose behind the arrangement is unknown to all but the illithids.
Illithids are extremely weak and frail physically, but make up for any physical detriments with a cunning intellect, sharp minds, and powerful mental capabilities. Like the other races in the Underdark, the eyes of illithids are not meant to see the light of the sun, and will avoid the surface as much as possible. Illithids have no mouths so therefore must use project, massproject and pask instead of say, shout and ask respectively.
